Description

Responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of produce received and warehoused at the Produce Distribution Centre (PDC). This includes compliance with government and corporate specifications and the maintenance of quality standards that are representative of us.

Responsibilities
  • All suppliers shipping to Metro comply with product specifications and related food safety requirements.
  • The receivers follow Metro’s prescribed receiving practices. This also involves one on one job training with the receivers (unionized employees) and managers and group training as required. The incumbent must provide support to the receivers, act as a resource and monitor their performance without directing them.
  • Inventory levels and rotation of products are monitored to assure that the practice of First In First Out is respected.
  • Audit the warehouse coolers daily to identify quality and shrink issues providing the information to the rest of QA and the buying teams.
  • Record all rejections by commodity, identifying the supplier, full description of item, the number of cases involved, the reason for the rejection and request disposition of the product when dealing with FOB loads.
  • Perform inspections which will be used to review local and imported loads in order to take the proper decision to accept or reject. Inspections must be thorough and well documented so that procurement and merchandising makes the proper call as well can address issues when dealing with suppliers. Inspections must be accurate as it is possible the supplier challenges and requests a CFIA inspection or third party inspection for a second opinion.
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary Degree or diploma - preferably in a Quality Assurance related study an asset
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of Produce Quality Assurance experience. Experience working within a Distribution environment or Retail outlet an asset.
  • Working in varying temperature's (3C to 23C).
  • Able to lift up to 50 lb.
  • Intermediate skills using Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Experience working with government agencies such as CFIA an asset.
  • Must be available to work weekends or holidays.
  • Able to work independently.
